Every object in the life-sustaining system on Earth, serves a unique
function. Every item produces a product attributable only to it.
The Sun, 93 million miles from Earth, produces sunlight, heat and solar-energy. Earth and water produce vegetation, the means of growth and the nourishment of all life. Man is the central player of the Universe. He has intelligence, speech, and - most significantly - a soul. The products of his intelligence, are his accomplishments in technology, science and medicine. The products of his speech, are his communication and song. What are the products of his soul? Mitzvos. These, often at odds with his physical nature, are correlatable, only, to something beyond the physical. These actions, most often without personal gain, are doings that are reflective, uniquely, of his soul. (Maharal: Tiferes Yisroel; chapter 1) ![]() |
