Synagogue History:
Congregation Etz Ahaim, the only Sephardic synagogue in Middlesex County, is located at 203 Denison Street, Highland Park, NJ 08904, in beautiful Highland Park, New Jersey. It was founded in New Brunswick in 1929 by a group of local businessmen who originated in Salonika, Greece.

In the early 1960's, rapid expansion and the shift of population created a need for a new and larger facility. In 1961, our present building was completed.

Location:
Congregation Etz Ahaim is located within the borough of Highland Park, NJ. Highland Park is completely enclosed by an Eruv. There is a Yeshiva Day School and High School in town as well as a YMHA. We have a mikvah, a glatt kosher butcher, kosher bakery, pizza/Middle Eastern restaurant, deli, fish store, Dunkin Donuts, ice cream store and bagel store all under the supervision of the Vaad HaRabbanim of Raritan Valley. Highland Park has easy access to NYC via train and bus (under an hour).

Synagogue Orientation and Services:
Respecting the beautiful customs and traditions of our faith, Congregation Etz Ahaim is an orthodox Sephardic synagogue. Our services are complete, and our beautiful sanctuary provides separate but equal seating areas for men and women. Services are held 365 days a year. Child care and a children's program are offered each Shabbat.

All of our Shabbat and holiday Services are followed by a bountiful sit- down kiddush providing members with an opportunity to socialize, greet new worshippers, and informally meet our Rabbi, Rabbi David Bassous.

Youth & Education:
Congregation Etz Ahaim provides children with exciting educational programs:

Torah for Tot's Program:
On Shabbat morning our Torah for Tot's program provides an innovative curriculum for 3 groups of children, preschool and up beginning at age two. The program is filled with fun, learning and laughter. The children learn songs, tefilah, Jewish traditions and customs. A children's kiddush is served.

Sunday School:
For the five to seven year old child, we offer a program on Sunday mornings. These sessions provide a basic foundation in Judaism through stories, arts and crafts and music, as well as an introduction to the hebrew language.

Hebrew School:
Students entering the third grade in public school begin formal Jewish studies. Classes meet twice a week for two hour sessions. We offer a complete curriculum in Hebrew reading, writing, Jewish history, Bible, Jewish ethics and tefilah.

Teen Torah Center:
This innovative program provides our teens with continuing Jewish education in an informal and friendly atmosphere and gives our teens a social outlet within our synagogue environment. The program meets each Sunday morning during the school year.

Adult Education:
Congregation Etz Ahaim offers adult education classes four times a week in addition to our guest lecture program.

Daughters of Etz Ahaim:
The congregation's sisterhood has been in existence for the entire life of the synagogue.

The sisterhood has monthly meetings and sponsors a wide range of activities such as holiday and social events and weekly Israeli folk dancing classes.
