What does Hashem Elokecha ask from you, but to fear Hashem Elokecha and to walk in His ways? (Devorim, Perek Yud, Pasuk Yud Gimmel)

Shabbos Berashis

When we call up the Chasan Berashis, the person who has the Aliyah for the beginning of Berashis, we say that we end and begin the Torah again right away so that this nation (Yisrael) should not become regular in Sheker, lies. It is appropriate to ask what does the reading of the Torah have to do with Sheker?

1. In the Sefer Imrei Shaul, Reb Shaul, the Moditzer Rebbe, explains that we end Sefer Devorim with the words "Anay Kol Yisrael", the last letter being Lamed) and we begin Sefer Berashis with "Berashis Barah", the first letter being Bais. These two letters spell the Hebrew word Lev, which has a gematria of 32. The word Lev is written in the Chumash 32 times. One of those times it says "Lev Lavan HaArami," the heart of Lavan from Aram. Lavan's heart we are told was filled with Sheker. Now, it is said that each time it mentions the word "Lev" it is symbolic of the 32 Nesivos HaChachma. Therefore, one might think that Sheker is one of the Nesivos. In order to keep that from being possible we add another Lev, to the Torah by finishing Devorim and immediately beginning again with Berashis.

2. At the beginning of Berashis, Rashi brings down the Gemara that teaches "Beshvil Yisrael Shnekra Rashis", the world was created for Yisrael, who is called "Rashis", the beginning. Therefore, when we end and then immediately begin, we are able to the read the last words and the first words as follows. "L'Anay Kol," to the eyes of everyone, "Yisrael Berashis Barah Elokim," Yisrael was created first by Hashem. A people who were the first to be created cannot be a nation who regularly deals with Sheker, it must be a nation that is "Ragil", regular in Torah and its purity.
