As told to me by R' Yosef Wasner of Neponsit very late on leil Shabbos, Parashath Ve'zoth Ha'be'rachah.

The Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh (O"HH), z"tl, knew that he would die soon and that his wife would have little means to sustain herself. He told her that after his death a g'vir would offer her a large amount of money for his tefilin. He instructed her to sell his pair of tefilin but to warn this g'vir that he should never say a word of divrei chol while wearing them.

And so it was. The O"HH left this world and a g'vir from Turkey bought his pair of tefilin giving her an extravagant sum which set her up for life. And pursuant to her husband's wishes, she warned this fellow. This man returned to his country and after wearing these tefilin a short time experienced a feeling of kedushah unlike anything he felt before. His concentration vastly improved and as a result he was matzliach in all areas in his life.

One morning at davening, one of his customers was in a crisis and pressed him with a business question. This g'vir remained silent and signaled that he could not speak while wearing tefilin. The customer kept badgering him he finally, to make him stop, answered him. The moment he spoke, this g'vir felt a shock through his system. Later in the day, he went to the sofer to have his tefilin checked. The sofer opened the batim and was astonished to see that the parchment of the tefilin was blank. Due to his improper speech, the letters literally flew from the parchment.

From the above, it stands to reason that if one elevates himself and refrains from speaking divrei chol when he is wearing tefilin, it is as if he is wearing the tefilin of the Ohr HaChaim Hakadosh.
