The Torah commands us "to study, to teach, to observe, and to do" which serves as the basis for the 48 covenants that Hakadosh Boruch Hu made with us regarding each and every mitzvah (see Sotah 37a), Teaching Torah to those who seek Torah knowledge is a sacred obligation that is incumbent upon every single Jew, stemming both from our obligations as individuals and our obligation to the Jewish community which is in need of Torah and its teachers. Teaching Torah to others serves as the fulfillment of Toras chesed, as it is taught in Tractate Succah (48b): Teaching Torah is the essence of Torah shel chesed. We must be thankful to Hashem that we have merited to witness in our generation a great awakening of Jews removed from Torah who are being reached - Jews who are thirsty for the word of Hashem and are asking for mentors and guides who will help quench this thirst through the wellsprings of Torah. May Hashem strengthen the efforts of Torah Umesorah which has established a sacred project called Parners in Torah in numerous institutions in cities across North America. Partners in Torah pairs up mature adults who, together, dedicate one or two hours a week to discussing and listening, influencing and being receptive, teaching and learning Chumash, Mishna, Gemarrah, laws, and the tradition of our forefathers, depending on the interests of each pair, These chavrusos have already, with the help of Hashem, succeeded beyond reasonable expecta coins to draw the hearts of Jews closer, and to return their souls to Torah and mitzvah observance to such an extent, that the demand in the larger Jewish community is larger than the supply of mentors. Our sages of blessed memory from previous generations supported the concept of separating maaser from our time, by dedicating one tenth of our time for the benefit of other Jews. The hour calls for volunteers who will set aside at least one hour a week, even from the time they've designated for their own Torah-study, if need be, to draw the hearts of our fellow Jews closer to our Father in Heaven. These words are meant to lend our support to Partners in Torah and to declare that it is the sacred obligation of all Jews with a love of Torah - including those for whom Torah is their sole endeavor - to participate in this project. We entreat each and every Jew to come to the aid of the Jewish nation and do their part in fulfilling the mandate of the Jewish people by uplifting the banner of Torah for the sake of the present and future generations. Signed with reverance of the Torah and blessings for a k'siva v'chasima tova.
